History
Founded by Terry Jarvis, Craig Heatley farmers Trevor and Alan Gibbs in 1987 as Media Sky Limited.
Sky Media Limited originally formed to investigate the possibility of catching sports programming in clubs and bars High performance with four satellite dishes meters Jarvis and partner Brian green engineering, but is redirected to pay-TV after bidding successfully in 1990 by four groups of UHF frequencies in Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga regions.
The first Sky subscriber was Former Speaker of the House of Representatives of New Zealand Jonathan Hunt, according to Helen Clark, former Prime Minister of New Zealand.
Sky quickly gained the rights to long-term U.S. ESPN sports network (which became a shareholder of 1%) as well as CNN and HBO, which provides a supply sports, news and movies from three channels: Sky Sport, Sky News (a mix of CNN International and BBC bulletins) and Sky Movies (later called HBO, before returning to original name.)
Initially operating only in the Auckland region Sky Broadcast Communications hired to provide the service broadcasting and transmission of Panorama Road studios formerly owned by defunct television station in the North.
Later, as funding allowed extended sky coverage in most of New Zealand, in 1994, Sky launched two more channels, Discovery and Orange. The company expanded to Hawkes Bay, Manawatu, Southland and Otago, follow the Wairarapa, Taupo and Wanganui regions in 1995. Its latest expansion of UHF in 1996 was Taranaki, Whangarei and the Bay of Plenty.
In April 1997, presented an analogue sky nationwide direct satellite (DBS) service that would also give the opportunity to offer their customers more channels and interactive options. Be updated a digital service in December 1998.
The concept of pay-TV service was back in New Zealand and the sky had problems time. This display included the acceptance of subscription television. They face difficulties in educating retailers and customers on the use of the original boxes. However, this problem was alleviated with the introduction of more user-friendly set-top boxes that allow viewers more flexibility.
Channel that is no longer carried by Sky TV including Granada UKTV Hallmark Channel TVSN Property and television. An email service was also presented at SkyMail a while, but was later arrested due to lack of interest (including wireless keyboards were produced by him).
2006 Sky Digital Cutting
The direct broadcast satellite (DBS) service line was just before 19:00 CET (8 am London 3 hours New York) on March 30, 2006. The service disruption affected more than 550,000 customers and caused many decoders to advise clients of the rain fade. "Due to excessive volume of help desk calls to free Sky Sky update messages posted on its website advising customers they were working with Optus to restore service by midnight.
Heaven gave the cause as a problem during a routine maneuver B1 satellite. Sky also blamed the total solar eclipse that occurred the same day, the solar panels are in the shade and they can not recharge. Astronomers said it was very unlikely there was any connection, as the only satellite that has been in the shade for a few minutes longer than usual, if even in the shade of the Moon at all during the eclipse. The service was resumed at 8 am (21:00 London, 16:00 New York) on March 31, 2006. Accredited clients SKY subscription fees a day as compensation for the downtime, at a cost to the company of NZ $ 1.5 million.
This cut resulted in a New Zealand under the name "Ben" to the list of joke the satellite as an item for sale on TradeMe New Zealand online website auction, with while more than 231,000 records up page views and feedback and even much mention in local media. It was listed with the description "A little used for digital broadcast satellite television. It seems bad behavior at the time, not knowing what the problem is, so bid at your own risk. "

In December 2005, Sky launched its own digital video recorder (DVR), which is essentially an updated box similar to Foxtel IQ higher than in Australia or TiVo in the U.S.. I called Sky, which offers viewers the ability to pause live TV, rewind television, record up to two channels at once straight to the top box and see the start of a recorded program while still recording the end. It also gives viewers access to a renewed and the new Guide Planning for recording and access plan with the touch of a button. However, the PVR box is owned by Sky television.
One of the features announced in My heaven is the ability to log system series of programs through the "Series Link" feature. But This has proven to be unreliable in that sometimes, for future recordings are not made. This has occurred since the service started. Sky TV say they are working to determine cause random failures and to rectify. Soft reset the decoder appears to overcome the problem temporarily.
Software was in my sky that after an hour of Sky no signal, then the decoder locks playing pre-recorded programs. This was discovered after of the Optus B1 satellite was unable to broadcast the sky at more than 600,000 subscribers.
This cash generation was replaced by Mi Sky HDi when launched on July 1, 2008.

The new boxes allow connection of up to four satellites that can operate with four TV tuner cards in any combination. Two channels can be recorded on Once, while another can be watched live and the fourth is for a non-real time pay per view. The device has a 320 GB hard drive, however, only 160 are available for recording, the rest is reserved for a la carte downloads. The quality of my sky HDi is 576i through component and HDMI 720/1080i through.
At June 30, 2009, there are 84,002 subscribers My Sky HDi.

This service began in 2007 and has 12 to 15 titles at any given time. The new titles will be downloaded automatically from the Optus D1 satellite to the PVR and list only when they are on sale and reproduction instant. Sky intends to add a remote programming feature for my sky allowing customers to program your PVR via the Internet or mobile phones.
