As an artist, illustrator and cartoonist in the United Kingdom, I am always looking to upgrade my range of styles, be innovative and learn new drawing skills. With the introduction of digital art and how it has taken the art world by storm (on the Internet at least) I'm looking for ways I can improve my hand-drawn images with traditional art and cartoon drawing software.
I recently purchased Wacom digital tablet to help draw digitally via the computer, but I am reluctant to spend much money on expensive art corel photoshop or drawing software. I've been watching drawing software is available online for free. In doing so I found Pixia cartoons and drawing software. Pixia is huge in Japan and now have an English version.
I downloaded the software Pixia FREE (it took just a few seconds to download) and immediately began using it to shade a hand-drawn cartoon caricature of my own children. You can view the results below.
I drew this cartoon cartoon hand using a black gel pen and then shading, using the free software Pixia drawing. The process was fairly simple.
I chose the icon that showed he wanted fill the gaps in color. Then select the color, select the gap (by moving the mouse on the surface of it and clicking on the right) then I went to icon painting for the pot. The gap is then filled with the color chosen. Besides the colors Pixia has a variety of textures and shader allows multiple layers.
Then shows a funky shadow effect I created using the same software Pixia drawing.
This picture had been shaded with pen in hand. I wanted to see how could use the elements of shading by hand with digital shade together. This is the outcome. A funky, modern and quite unique cartoon caricature.
